Ukurine Complete - Day 5
Well. Its day 5 and the Ukurine is - for the most part - complete. I need to level the frets, try a set of steel strings, and slap some sort of finish on the neck. Five evening sessions, and all it cost me was for the tamborine. The neck is from the remains of an old futon frame. I have built a number of instruments and other miscellaneous things from that old frame. The rosewood, zither pins, and fret wire were all things I had left over from other projects. Check StewartMacDonald for fret wire, its pretty cheap. Zither pins are also cheap. I buy them 100 at a time, so they last me a while. The rosewood is the only pricey component on the whole project. I think I ordered that piece from Rockler.. maybe... Other details I didn't mention... The nut is also rosewood. The bridge is maple. I have a stack of maple bridge blanks I cut a while back. I pre-drilled the four holes when I cut the blanks and then when I need to make a bridge, I can decide how its going to look, if it will be 2 or three footed, etc.
